Earlier this year, I headed to New York City for some fun with two of my friends, Crystal and Irene. Irene also happens to be a client of mine so she came over to Ottawa for a little visit, some strategizing in-person and of course, a girl’s weekend to The Big Apple.
We had a fab trip! It was exactly what we needed to recharge our batteries, see the sights and be energized by the city that never sleeps. We stayed in a hotel near Madison Square Garden, which turned out to be a great, central location for everything we wanted to see and do.
Travel Tip: if you’re driving to New York City, like we did for this trip, don’t park in Manhattan. Instead, take your vehicle to long-term parking at Newark Airport and stay there instead. The train from Newark goes straight downtown (comes up at Penn Station) and the parking in long-term is way cheaper than it is downtown.
The first night, Irene had made reservations at Bobby Flay’s restaurant, Bar Americain, and it was DELICIOUS. Seriously. If you like southern cuisine but with a heavy side dish of class, this is the place you want to eat while in NYC.
Day one was pretty chill – a seven hour drive followed by a hotel check-in, dinner and some (slightly tipsy!) walking through Times Square. We finished off the evening with a night cap in Hell’s Kitchen at an amazing, New Orleans themed bar called Bourbon Street. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a place to grab a drink!
