I almost can’t believe that I didn’t know about Sandbanks prior to this year… Such a hidden gem and within driving distance of my house (about 3.5-4 hours). When it was suggested that a day trip out there was in order, I couldn’t say no. I mean, it is in wine country after all.

So, we packed our beach bags and headed out to the beach.

One of the best parts of the trip for me was this moment when we were trekking from the sand dunes over to the big beach. You have to hike through a lot of sandy trails and then some off-road stuff that goes through some, at times, swampy areas. At first, I was thinking, “This beach better be good…” and then we reached this hill. The final hill.

All along the water, between the beach and this vast area of land, is a hill. You need to climb the hill to get to the water side and trust me, it’s worth it. My breath actually caught in my throat and I found myself wondering if I had someone magically crossed over some Canadian-Caribbean threshold.

We spent the day lounging in the sun, playing frisbee in the water and just generally having a good time. This is what life is all about, isn’t it? Making these memories that will never be forgotten.

What a day.
